The 62m Simena: An Ares Sailing Yacht with a Modern Twist

Ares Yachts, a renowned shipyard based in Antalya, Turkey, has revealed the interior renders of its 62-metre flagship sailing yacht, Simena. The superyacht, which entered her outfitting phase in November 2023, combines classical and contemporary design features to create a stunning and elegant vessel.

Exterior Design

Simena’s exterior design was created by Taka Yacht Design, a Turkish studio led by naval architect and owner Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu. The design was inspired by the clipper ships of the 19th century, which were fast and graceful sailing vessels. Simena’s hull shape, however, is derived from Taka Yacht Design’s previous successful wooden ketch designs, which are known for their performance and seaworthiness.

The superyacht’s superstructure is designed to serve contemporary cruising requirements, with ample space for outdoor living and entertainment. Simena also features traditional teak decks and varnished Sipo mahogany exterior joinery, which add a touch of classic charm and warmth to her appearance.

Simena can accommodate up to 12 guests onboard, with space for a crew of nine. She has a beam of 11.5 metres and a draft of 5.5 metres. She is powered by two Caterpillar C18 engines, which give her a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. She also has a sail area of 1,800 square metres, which allows her to harness the wind and glide through the water.

Interior Design

Simena’s interior design was crafted by Design Unlimited, a UK-based studio that specializes in yacht and residential interiors. The design showcases a “clean, relaxed geometry”, with a harmonious blend of modern and classic elements. The interior is adorned with walnut, featuring tonal textured leathers and fabrics, complete with antiqued brass accents throughout. The result is a cozy and inviting ambiance that enhances the sense of tranquility onboard.

The yacht’s master suite is situated on the main deck forward, offering panoramic views and plenty of natural light. The suite also has a private office, a walk-in wardrobe, and a spacious ensuite bathroom. The bathroom features patterned tiles, Calacatta Oro and Patagonia White marbles, and a large bathtub.

The lower deck hosts four guest cabins, two VIPs and two twins, each with their own ensuite bathrooms. The guest cabins also have walnut walls, leather headboards, and brass details, creating a consistent and elegant theme throughout the yacht.

The main saloon is a large and open space, with a lounge area, a dining area, and a bar. The saloon has large windows that provide natural light and scenic views. The saloon also has a fireplace, a piano, and a wine cellar, adding to the yacht’s luxury and comfort.

The upper deck hosts the wheelhouse, the captain’s cabin, and a sky lounge. The sky lounge is a versatile and cozy space, with a sofa, a coffee table, a TV, and a games table. The sky lounge also has access to the aft deck, which has a jacuzzi, a sunbathing area, and a dining table.

The yacht also has a beach club, a gym, a sauna, and a tender garage, which can store a 9.5-metre limousine tender, a 6.5-metre RIB, and a variety of water toys.

Delivery

Simena is currently in the outfitting stage at Ares Yachts’ facility in Antalya, and is expected to be delivered in 2024. She will be the largest sailing yacht ever built in Turkey, and one of the most impressive and beautiful sailing yachts in the world.

Osman Tanju Kalaycioglu, the naval architect and owner of Taka Yacht Design, expressed his excitement and pride about the project, saying, “Each new stage of Simena coming to life, with its combined effort of hundreds of designers, engineers, technicians and craftsmen creates a natural adrenaline spike for me.”

Simena is a sailing yacht that combines classic and character with modern and luxury, creating a unique and captivating vessel that will surely turn heads wherever she goes.
